xat GIF maker

Make xat name GIFs and sprite strips in your browser.

Type a name, pick a font, colour the outline and fill separately, add your own picture and layer effects like flash, fire or sparkles. Picto exports an animated GIF for previews and the 30px sprite strip PNG that xat avatars actually use, and hosts both for you.

  1. Type and style

Enter the text, choose one of the fonts and set the outline and inner colours.

  2. Add effects and a picture

Stack effects from the library, drop in an image, and set how many frames each part plays for.

  3. Export or upload

Download the GIF or the sprite strip, or upload it to Picto and copy the link.

  • Sprite strips, not just GIFs

Cells of 30, 60, 90 or 120px laid end to end, the exact format 2D avatars and pcbacks expect.

  • Separate outline and fill colours

Letters are recoloured cleanly, including the tiny counters in the small fonts.

  • Dozens of effects

Flash, fire, lava, sparkles, tornado and more, each timed per part of the animation.

  • Hosted instantly

No detour through another image host. Upload from the tool and use the link right away.

Questions

What size should a xat avatar GIF be?

2D avatars are square frames, most commonly 30px. Picto's default cell is 30px and the strip grows by one cell per frame.

Why export a PNG strip instead of a GIF?

The strip is what the chat reads as an animation. The GIF is handy for previews and for sites that play GIFs directly.

Can I use my own picture?

Yes. Add an image part, choose how it fits the cell, and decide whether it moves with the letters or stays put.

Is Picto affiliated with xat?

No. Picto is an independent image host. The GIF maker simply produces files in the format that xat uses.
